WE’RE SORRY TO SAY THIS EVENT IS NOW CANCELLED IN LIGHT OF RECENT DEVELOPMENTS REGARDING COVID-19.
To mark the end of TURKANA - the final presentation of The Artists Xchange exhibited at The Gallow Gate in December 2020 - we will be celebrating with musical performances by Eddie Grey and Elizabeth Korikel, two of the ten artists involved in the project. This event was originally scheduled to take place during the exhibition in December 2020 but has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.
On Friday 20 March, Eddie Grey will perform a solo set as well as collaborative performances with Elizabeth Korikel and local musicians including Omar Afif and Paix. This is a rare opportunity to see one of Kenya's leading jazz musicians in Scotland, playing with some of our most exciting local artists!
The Artists Exchange project is lead by Content House, a collective of writers, filmmakers and artists in Kenya. Artists Exchange is a year long undertaking that brings together artists from Turkana, Karamoja, Kampala and Nairobi to produce work that responds to the issues facing the Ateker region (Turkana & Karamoja). The artists work in various disciplines including video art, film, fashion, music, visual art and photography. The Artists Exchange is a companion project of the feature documentary Turkana: Races for Resources (www.turkanafilm.com) which will be released in 2020. Content House presented a final exhibition for this project at The Gallow Gate in December 2020. The exhibition is now closed but documentation is at https://www.thegallowgate.art/turkana
In the spirit of collaboration, which sits at the heart of this project, we have invited three Glasgow-based musicians to meet and work with Eddie Grey and Elizabeth Korikel, to present new, collaborate work together at this live music event.
